150 military time

What is Military Time?

Military time, also commonly known as 24-hour time is a way to express time on a 24-hour clock. Rather than using a.m. and p.m., this system is designed to measure day and night in military units of 15 minutes each. Some countries around the world have adopted the use of this system, such as those in the Americas and Europe. According to military rules, the time of day starts at midnight which corresponds to 0000 hours, with each hour having its own unique two-digit designation: 0100 (1:00am), 0200 (2:00am), et cetera until 2300 (11 pm).

How to Read Military Time

There are a few key components that you must understand before you can confidently read military time. First, you must understand what each two-digit number represents—a unique hour in the day measured from 0 to 23. In addition, it's important to recognize recognizethe letters "h" or "hr" following a number; for instance, 1500 hrs means 3:00 p.m., whereas 1500h stands for 15:00 hour—or 3:00 p.m.. You may also see an additional colon separating an hr from a minute; for example 1800:30 hrs stands for 6:30 p.m..

Military Time Calculation

Whenever you need to calculate from one form of military time notation into another notation use these steps as your guide:

Step 1 - Convert all times into 2400 hrs or h format prior to calculation

Step 2 - Add or subtract in increments of 15 minutes

Step 3 - Remember that one full hour = 100 minutes

Step 4 - To convert back into conventional (12hr) enter single digit hours as 12 x that number; i..e 12 x 6 = 72

Step 5 - To convert back into conventional (12hr) enter double digit hours as Double that number plus twelve; i..e 8 * 2 = 16 + 12 = 28

Common Misunderstandings About Military Time

Since military time and traditional form are so different, there are common misunderstandings when trying to convert one format into another. First, it can be easy to confuse between the two modes (24h versus 12hr) leading someone towards inaccurately adding or subtracting resulting in an incorrect conversion Another common confusion is between 0000 and 2400 notation – since both represent 0 hours it can be tricky determining whether it should read 0 × 00 or 24 × 00 when doing conversions Lastly, most do not know how to accurately convert minutes resulting in imprecise calculations all together

In conclusion Military Time is an efficient way of publically expressing time by utilizing the full scope of what a day holds from midnight through midnight accurately expressed in quarters of an hour
